And just like that, a New Season Begins!

student build image

With September comes a new season of Student Build! It is a most exciting time here at Habitat Suffolk, connecting again with all of the students and faculty from nearly 40 different high schools, clubs, colleges, or student groups as a new school year begins. Make sure you include us in your topics of conversation at the beginning of the year and consider us as a way to get your students out of the classroom in a positive and hands-on way! Student Build is all about educating, building, and empowering the next generation to spread goodness around them and out into the world!

More than building homes, we build communities, hope, and the opportunity for families to help themselves. Habitat sponsorships help families build long-term financial security. With an affordable, stable home, families have more to spend on food, medicine, child care, education and other essentials. When you become a Habitat Sponsor, you become a part of a larger group of Long Islanders that believe that every family deserves the stability and financial security that comes with homeownership.

Emphasis on Education, Hard Work, and Community Involvement

Backpack image
There are many ways to be involved with Habitat for Humanity on an individual and group basis that don't require a hard hat. One of the ways you can do this is through participation in Build-a-Backpack, an annual program that provides school supplies and backpacks to Habitat kids for the upcoming school year! Backpacks will then be distributed at Habitat's Back to School Picnic in mid-August. We believe Build-a-Backpack introduces Habitat kids to our continual emphasis on education, hard work, and community involvement.

This opportunity is perfect for individuals or groups that aren't quite old enough to be onsite, or might not be comfortable building, but still want to be an integral part of Habitat Suffolk's mission. Our goal is and always has been to provide decent homes for deserving families to live and grow, and to keep building until everyone in our communities and around the world have a decent place to call home.

Thanks so much to the many donors who help make this program so successful each year; we hope you will participate again! Below is a suggested supply list. Please contact Lindsey if you need additional information about the program or to register as a donor. Thank you so very much for your time and consideration!

1.Register to participate this year by contacting Lindsey at or 631.422.4828 x114
2.Start building your backpack/s or gathering supplies. We have a list to give you if you need help
3. Label each backpack as either Elementary, Middle, or High School.
4.Drop-off all backpacks and supplies to the Habitat office at: 643 Middle Country Rd, Middle Island NY 11953.
